Edward Roberts, PhD is a Professor in the Department of Molecular Medicine at the Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) where he works on translational programs in several therapeutic areas such as pain/inflammation, pervasive developmental disorders, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, alcohol/substance abuse, depression, stress and anxiety. Much of his work revolves around the design of compounds exhibiting selective polypharmacology and/or allosteric modulation of G-Protein Coupled receptors (GPCRs).

With over 3 decades of medicinal chemistry experience, Dr. Roberts has enjoyed a very successful career within the Pharmaceutical industry and has helped initiate/progress many programs into clinical trials and beyond at Parke-Davis (now Pfizer), AstraZeneca and latterly as Senior Vice President and head of all discovery chemistry at F. Hoffmann-La Roche in Basel, Switzerland.

Dr. Roberts has been involved in the start-up of several companies. These companies are involved in preclinical/clinical development for Rheumatoid Arthritis, Cancer, Multiple Sclerosis, IBD’s, diseases associated with stress and neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism.

He is a graduate of the University of Sussex, and the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and has completed courses at the Columbia Business School, IMD (Lausanne) and London Business School.

Dr. Roberts is currently Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, Chartered Chemist, Chartered Scientist.
